Perception is a funny thing…

Communication is complicated.

I know what I mean.
I say what I mean.
You hear something totally different.

Why?

I was perfectly clear.
My reasoning was exemplary
My words eloquent.
The concept was not overly complex.
I bore no ill will toward you.

You heard something I never said.

Why?

I guess it’s because you aren’t me.
You see through your eyes…not mine.
You hear through your ears…not mine.

Your perception of who I am is different from my own.
Your expectation of what I’m trying to say is not what mine is.
Your feelings toward me are different from how I feel about myself.

You didn’t hear what I said
…and it isn’t your fault.

Nor is it mine…

So now what?
